Here some helpful tips to ensure you are not entering into a trade where you may get ripped off.
IF THE DEAL IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT MOST LIKELY IS. If someone offers you an Xbox Console for a $50 game, most likely you are going to get ripped off. Most traders deal value for value. Such as, a $50 game for a $50 game.
All trades should be done on TGN. If the user is trying to take you off site to AIM or Yahoo Messenger, we have no way to verify the trade and there is no record of your conversation. Keep the trade on TGN.
If a user provides a different address than the one on TGN, ask them why their address is not in the system. Previously banned users will often do this to avoid detection.
If a user has no address ask them to enter it into the TGN system. If they refuse, contact TGN Administrators through the contact us link, and we will ask them too.
Stick to the general rule that less feedback sends first. Rippers use common tactics like, "I have been ripped so my parents do not allow me to send first" or "it is a gift and I need it right away". If they are adamant about not sending first, offer to use SafeTrade (information can be found here). If they decline to use SafeTrade, back out of the deal.
Some other common common practices that rippers use:
The user has no feedback on TGN, but tries to convince you to send first with feedback from other sites (Ebay, GTZ, etc.).
The user has all the newest games in high demand. He is either selling cheap or trading cheap.
The users requests that payments be made in cash only.
The user has a history of bad trading on other sites.
Use the Bad Trader check. This cross references the trader with our database of bad traders. If this turns up any information, contact TGN Administrators using the contact us link.
And again, most importantly, if the deal is too good to be true, it most likely is.
In general, for your first few trades, stick to users with VERY good feedback until you build up your own. They have earned their trust and you should feel relatively safe sending your item first to them. If you have doubts at all about a trade, BACK OUT. You can always find the game from another more reliable user!
